10,000 Steps press on; audit to be distributed to key stakeholders

A review of the physical activity resources that exist in the community is underway by coordinators of the Central Queensland University-based 10,000 Steps Rockhampton Project.

PhotoID:145“We’ll be able to see more clearly the strong and weak spots in physical activity within the area,” explains project officer, Emily Clarke, who will canvass commercial providers, government agencies, sport and recreational facilities, and regional organizations.

Stakeholders start receiving questionnaires today. Coordinators expect the data collected will provide information on the condition of sport centres and the activities and programs supplied by neighbourhood providers --- who uses the facility, are spectators allowed etc.

A report, which will be produced by the end of August to a committee consisting of representatives from Sport & Recreation Queensland, the City Council and others, will assist program managers in creating a sustainable model of community based physical activity.

This initial Sport and Recreation Facility Audit will be followed-up by a series of neighbourhood meetings that members of the community will be invited to attend, according to a spokesperson.

Queensland Health funds the 10,000 Steps Rockhampton Project.
