Last chance to register for health professional workshop

Time is running out to register for the Electronic Health Records: Clinical Aspect and Standards workshop, to be held at Rydges Capricorn International Resort on 2-3 August at Yeppoon.
According to Associate Professor Hovenga, Chair of the Workshop “this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for local students, professionals and researchers to participate in a forum of leading national and international health experts”.
Computerisation in the workplace has become an increasingly important issue for the health sector and the development of new information systems continues to revolutionise employment.
Central Queensland University Associate Professor Evelyn Hovenga said the use of these technologies including electronic health records has the potential to improve the efficiency, safety and quality of careor need to make better use of available computer, information and telecommunication technologies to support their area of practice.
“Clinical health care providers are constant users of such records and urgently need sufficient knowledge to contribute to these developments which will effect their work practices very significantly,” Dr Hovenga said.
The workshop will provide the latest update of information management and technology initiatives, identify the need for clinical involvement during much of the research and development period, facilitate an exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences, facilitate a unique communication exchange between a number of national and international Experts in the area of Electronic Health Records, Standards development, point of care clinicians and software developers, establish clinician IM/IT educational needs to facilitate their involvement and recommendations for future directions.
The workshop will be of major interest to health students, professionals providing direct patient care in any setting, health researchers, those involved in clinical governance, academics, health service managers and health information technology, information management or information systems specialists.
The workshop has been organized by the Faculty of Informatics and Communication, Central Queensland University, in conjunction with and support from a program committee representing HealthConnect (Commonwealth Department of Health and Aging), the HL7 Australasia User Group, the open EHR Foundation, and Standards development teams who collectively have both clinical and ICT knowledge and expertise.
