Meet Dave, who does remember the 1960s!

Dave Cardnell sailed to Australia as a '10-pound Pom' a mere 40 years and 1 week ago.

He didn't have a job lined up but (months earlier) had been interviewed for a teaching position by staff at Queensland House in London.

Arriving in Sydney in February 1969, he discovered he had a job waiting for him in Rockhampton. Catching the Rocky Mail train was then the quickest way to get here.

Dave began teaching at our predecessor institution, the Queensland Institute of Technology (Capricornia), in Bolsover Street (the building now occupied by TAFE).

Then as now - teaching has been his passion.

"Year after year, you might get older but the students stay young," he said.

"In just the flick of a finger it's been 40 years but this year's students will still be as young as the first years I taught back then in the 70s, 80s and 90s."

Dave, who is CQUniversity's longest-serving current staff member, has no plans for retirement as he still loves his work and is keenly awaiting the next batch of new students.
