It takes two - postgrads and supervisors collaborate for new book

Research students and their supervisors from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education (AHE) have collaborated on a new book.
The collection of 10 research studies - Re-Visioning Research and Knowledge for the 21st Century- was launched in late April.

According to the editors of the collection, Dr Bernadette Walker-Gibbs and Associate Professor Bruce Knight, the publication provides a variety of theoretical perspectives and experiences that clearly demonstrate the way postgraduate students of AHE are well-positioned to provide a critical debate about our collective futures in the 21st Century.
"The theme ... reflects the current debates around the impact and diversity of the knowledge economy with/in research circles in a global scale," the editors say.
Dr Walker-Gibbs said all papers are peer-reviewed and compiled to form chapters of a commercially produced book.
"Some of the benefits of participating in the Edited Collection are that it may form the basis of a chapter of the students' thesis; it gives the student feedback from international academic experts in their discipline; the peer-reviewed book chapter is recognised by DEST and therefore impressive on the students' CV; it gives students an opportunity to sharpen their writing skills; and it provides students with an opportunity to collaborate and learn skills from their supervisor."
The 2006 edition is the sixth in a series begun by Bruce Allen Knight and Leonie Rowan in 2000 in the then Faculty of Education and Creative Arts.
This year represents a change in direction for the edited collection as it includes a collection of papers from students from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines.
