Skilled leaders sought to shape future of Uni

CQUniversity is encouraging community members with relevant skills to consider applying to become a member of its governing body - the University Council.

In May 2010, 7 of the 15 Council positions will become vacant and will require fresh appointments by the Council or the Queensland State Government (having considered advice from the University).

CQUniversity's strategy is to become the most engaged University in Australia, to grow its CQ campuses and to significantly further expand its resource industry and other industry partnerships in both teaching and learning and research.

Hence, the University Council is keen to attract people who would like to make an active and committed honorary contribution for a 4-year period, starting in May 2010

While the University will be keen to attract some Council members who live in Central Queensland and/or are graduates of the University, its prime consideration is in building a Council team with a balance of skills, expertise and interests best suited to advancing the governance and development of the University as a whole.

A recent external review of the current Council's membership and performance concluded the current strengths in strategy development and implementation, accounting and finance, risk management and information technology should be maintained.

Skill areas for potential enhancement include experience as a CEO/senior manager as well as in governance of large organisations; high level experience in another Australian University; and considerable experience in marketing, preferably with a university focus.

Those interested can contact the Secretary to the Council on 4930 9575 or email k.window@cqu.edu.au for information on the selection criteria for appointed members.
