Refugee support available through Sanctuary

Sanctuary Central Queensland, a community-based refugee support group, will again have a presence at the CQU Multicultural Fair and Open Day to raise awareness of the group's work.

Sanctuary was formed two and a half years ago to provide financial, material and pastoral assistance to refugees in need.

These refugees are settled under Australia's Special Humanitarian Program and have been granted Class 202 visas which allow them permanent residency in Australia.

Sanctuary undertakes to provide a loan for their air fares, and the refugees undertake to repay the loan when they are able. This rolling loan system allows us to assist more families to come to Australia.

On arrival, families are assisted with all the day-to-day needs such as finding a place to live, establishing children in school, finding employment and familiarizing them with life in Australia.

For more information about Sanctuary, look out for their display at the CQU Multicultural Fair.
