Digital repository launched in Gladstone

Staff and researchers attended a function at CQU Gladstone this week for the local launch of the Library's latest resource offering, aCQUIRe.

aCQUIRe, CQU's digital repository, has been 2 years in the planning and is now available for staff and researchers to submit their publications.

PhotoID:3865 CQU Gladstone Library Manager, Karin Simon said there were a number of reasons for a repository at CQU.

“The first reason is to capture the research and scholarly output of the University. Secondly it is to ensure the University has as complete a record as possible of its research and scholarly output for now and into the future and the third is to increase the exposure of the University and active researchers and authors,” said Ms Simon.

The repository will form part of an international network of repositories that can be searched via the Internet, as well as being exposed to popular search engines such as Google. This, in itself is expected to have benefits for authors as well as the University.

Over the next few months aCQUIRe will take on the role of collecting research output for this year’s DEST reporting and all staff who would normally submit documentation to the Research Services Office for this submission will now need to submit online into aCQUIRe.

Ms Simon said all staff and researchers were encouraged to contribute to aCQUIRe even if not involved in the DEST process. With the Research Quality Framework (RQF) exercise gaining momentum, the Library hopes that submissions will begin to flood in from all CQU authors.

“The implementation of aCQUIRe represents CQU and the Library's commitment to open access, by making non-commercial information and knowledge generated by the University freely available,” said Ms Simon.

Contact your faculty liaison librarian or your local campus library for more information on how you can access aCQUIRe.
