Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Gladstone and Wide Bay students can take careers into account 

High school students have the chance to discover business and accountancy career opportunities and pathways, thanks to special events to be hosted by CQUniversity campuses in Bundaberg and Gladstone.

The study and career prospects of the regional area will also be emphasised, showing students that they can pursue their career goals in their home town.

At CQUniversity Bundaberg on Monday May 11, students will meet the General Manager and careers marketing team from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, hear from the senior accounting lecturer at CQUniversity and get the opportunity to discover the career paths of local business leaders.

Speakers will include the Institute of Chartered Accountants Queensland General Manager Simon Grant and Institute Careers Marketing officer Amy Taylor. Also giving presentations will be DGZ Chartered Accountants representative Bradley Grogan and his colleagues and CQUniversity Accounting lecturer Stacey Cowan.

Schools invited to CQUniversity Bundaberg include Kepnock, Bundaberg North, Isis and Shalom College.

At CQUniversity Gladstone on Tuesday May 12 students will hear from Karen Parker from Sothertons Chartered Accountants, Amy Taylor from the Institute of Chartered Accountants and speakers from CQUniversity.

Students from Gladstone and Toolooa schools are expected to attend.
