Kasey Chambers' Voice Worthy of Academic Analysis

Hundreds of magazine articles have already been written about Kasey Chambers, and now her voice is the subject of an academic paper.

The paper examines how an Australian desert upbringing, family nurturing and access to recordings of American artists has produced a "hybrid travelling voice".

Southern Cross University academic Leigh Carriage has penned the paper on 'Kasey's Vocal Chamber' for Australia's first national country music conference, to be held in conjunction with the National Country Music Muster at Gympie this weekend (August 23-25).

Apart from Kasey Chambers' vocal twangs, slides and sobs, Graeme Connors' career will be under the microscope and Colin Buchanan's success in bringing Christian country to inner city youths will be examined.

The conference is organised by the Australian Institute of Country music and sponsors include Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
