Theatre and music programs reinvigorated

CQUniversity has reinvigorated its theatre and music programs, moving to establish centres of excellence in Mackay and Rockhampton.

From 2009, the Bachelor of Music (Specialisation) and its associated jazz and contemporary music program will be based in the creative arts precinct at CQUniversity Rockhampton.

The Bachelor of Theatre (Specialisation) will be based at the fully-functioning theatre complex at CQUniversity Mackay.

Students will continue to gain exposure to leading industry mentors and regular performance and touring opportunities, including major productions.

The Theatre (Specialisation) is designed for students seeking a profession in the entertainment industry as an actor, dancer, musical theatre performer or a combination of any these skill sets as a collaborative artist.

The degree includes specialisations: Musical Theatre (the 'triple-threat'), Drama (Actor's craft) and Dance (contemporary and classical).

Graduates can undertake further study toward gaining professional skills as a director, choreographer, designer, technician or theatre manager.

The degree also provides excellent pathways for careers in education, creative industries and arts administration.

The Music (Specialisation) covers Creative Music Technologies and Jazz and Popular Music and is ideal for students considering a career in the music industry as a professional music theatre practitioner, musician, performing artist, composer or educator.

Music graduates are singularly successful in obtaining employment and establishing award-winning careers as stage performers, professional musicians and recording artists. Careers in education include primary, secondary and tertiary teaching as well as private studio work.
