Air-con upgrade a city centre traffic-stopper

CQU staff and tenants of the former Commonwealth Building (number 351) on the corner of East and Fitzroy streets are warming to the benefits of a new roof-top chiller, after sweltering conditions and break-downs of the old unit.
The University recently installed the new chiller as part of a total air-conditioning system upgrade for the building.
A crane with a load capacity of 200 tonnes was transported from Gladstone especially for this project.
Traffic was redirected during the early hours of Sunday, December 11. Drivers watched with interest as the crane lowered the 12-tonne unit behind the CQU sign.
Building occupants have expressed their appreciation for a cooler-than-normal start to the year.
The Division of Facilities Management is managing the major 3-month air-conditioning project, to cost about $650,000, with work contracted to local firm Trevor McMaster Refrigeration.
