CQU Bundaberg Art Space opened

Bundaberg Art Centre Coordinator Shelley Pisani opened the CQU Bundaberg Art Space and Dave Machen Continental Lights exhibition earlier this week. CQU Bundaberg Head of Campus Professor Alex Grady said the Art Space is a joint initiative between the Bundaberg campus and CQU Alumni.

“Although we have always displayed work from the University’s Art Collection in the building one foyer it was not until we installed new tracking and lighting that we considered the Art Space as another example of the University being part of the community,” Professor Grady said.

“The CQU Bundaberg Art Space is a space to display works created by members of the local community and the University community who are respected and talented, but yet might not even be known by members of the wider community, let alone our own student population.”.

Currently Bundaberg artist Dave Machen’s Continental Lights is on display. Earlier in the year, CQU Bundaberg art tutor and local artist Jennifer McDuff had two exhibitions in the space.

The Art Space has proven successful with staff and students who are enjoying the variety in both the techniques and styles of the various artists.

“We also believe in bringing work which is relevant to the community and to some extent works that might challenge their thoughts and attitudes.

“Later in the year we will be displaying CQU Bundaberg multi media lecturer Grayson Cooke’s Sweet As photographic exhibition which captures the sugar cane fires and harvesting process seen throughout the harvesting season which is such a crucial part of the Bundaberg life,” Professor Grady said.

The Art Space is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.45pm.
