Student selected for Games volunteer role

A CQU Melbourne International Campus student has been selected to work as a database operator in the first round of volunteer placements for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

PhotoID:1742 Anil Bellamkonda is currently studying for his Masters of Information Systems at CQU Melbourne.

He applied for a volunteer position after seeing the advertisements posted by campus TECC (Training, Employment and Careers Coaching) Unit.

Anil participated in a group workshop and attended an individual interview before being selected as a member of the first round of 350 volunteers.

He will begin training for the position on January 18 next year and will then work at least one day per week until the Games are held in March 2006.

Anil will begin work as a database operator with the scope to move into other administrative and customer service positions throughout his appointment.

CQU Melbourne TECC Manager Anne Roubin says the TECC unit will continue to focus on the value of volunteer work for students.

“We want to promote all students to go down this avenue because it opens the networks... it’s good for the community and it’s good for the (student’s) resume”.
