Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Kick start your university career at Nulloo Yumbah 

CQU’s Indigenous learning, spirituality and research centre, Nulloo Yumbah is offering mature aged people in the region the chance to study at university.

The successful bridging program, Tertiary Entrance Program (TEP), has limited vacancies in its on-campus program for people aged between 19 and 99 who may not have completed school.

Nulloo Yumbah is staging a free information day about the program on Thursday February 12 at 9am.

TEP coordinator Laurel Hunt said TEP was a full-year program designed to assist people develop skills to enter undergraduate university programs at CQU.

“TEP not only prepares people to succeed in tertiary education, but also addresses cultural issues,” Ms Hunt explained.

“Formerly the program had only been offered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, however this year the program has been offered to people from all backgrounds.”.

The program offers courses about computing, mathematics, science, academic communication, independent learning, culture and learning, communications, study skills, research and library skills, and indigenous history and politics.
