Chris MacCormack - looking forward to his career opportunities
He will gain $10,000 towards tuition and educational expenses, paid work placement in vacation periods and the chance to gain future employment for a year after graduating.
The IAL Scholarship was established in collaboration with the University's Office of Development and Graduate Relations to address a skill shortage in coal testing laboratories within the Gladstone region.
"By working with the University we have the opportunity to not only support our own recruitment initiatives but also give back to our community by developing our local talent into industry ready graduates," says Independent Australian Laboratories General Manager, Amanda Schafer.
Mr MacCormack is due to turn 21 soon and is confident the scholarship will be a key to his future career path.
He already has a track record for being a team player, having helped out as a mentor for first-year students in 2008.
