Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) together with Mackay Christian College will present a Jazz Spectacular this Friday, October 22.
Jazz students from the Bachelor of Jazz Studies program at CQCM have been presenting in heats this week, from which four finalists have been selected. Finalists are Kerry Armstrong, Tim Kirkwood, Daniel Burne and Jason Osmotherly, who will be supported by fellow staff and students as they compete for first place in the competition.
Each of the four finalists will present a 15-20 minute set in this Friday’s ‘Jazz Spectacular’ concert, which will be adjudicated by Ms Kristin Berardi, an ex-student of the CQCM who has recently recorded in New York.
According to Glen Hodges, head of Jazz studies at CQCM, the inaugural ‘Jazz Spectacular’ has been very successful and is likely to become a regular feature on the CQCM calendar.
“We have seen a lot of variety in both the styles of performance and capabilities of the students,” he said. “The concert this Friday is certain to be very interesting and very entertaining.".
To add even more spice to the evening, the concert will include a performance by the CQCM Latin band ‘El Loco’ which performed at the Botanic Gardens on the weekend.
Students from Mackay Christian College have been assisting with the production and will record this Friday’s concert.
The concert commences at 7.30pm in the Conservatorium Theatre, Boundary Road, Planlands. For tickets and information telephone 4940 7800.
