Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

'Master miner' guest speaker for Mackay Graduation 

Mining executive Tony Caruso will be guest speaker for CQUniversity Mackay's graduation ceremony, from 4pm on Thursday April 7 at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre.

A total of 94 students will celebrate their graduation and Nursing student Melissa Harris will deliver an address on behalf of graduates.

Mackay school principal Craig Murison will graduate with a Professional Doctorate alongside his daughter Catherine Murison who is graduating with an Arts degree.

Mackay Campus academic Dr Steven Pace will receive the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching during the ceremony. Dr Pace will be awarded for arranging a series of digital media master classes by 'superstar' role models who have worked on Oscar-winning films.

Guest speaker Mr Caruso graduated from CQUniversity with a post graduate degree in business in 2004 and is currently a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management. He is currently the managing director and a shareholder of the Mastermyne Group, a specialist provider of services to the Australian coal mining industry.
