CQUni wishes Royal Flying Doctor Service many happy returns

The Royal Flying Doctor Service celebrated its 15th anniversary of its base at Rockhampton airport last week.

Since its establishment in 1995, the service has become the busiest RFDS base in Queensland, with an average of about three transfers a day to Brisbane. The base operates two planes and three shifts with eight pilots.

The service, which holds the prestigious honour of being voted Australia's number one icon, is a valuable asset for the region, providing much needed access to medical care and transport for those living and working in regional and remote areas of the state.

Tamsen Clifford-Banks, Chair of CQUniversity's Workplace Giving Program, attended the function to help celebrate the milestone, on behalf of the Central Queensland University.

Tamsen was fortunate to be given a tour of the aircraft and also meet senior pilot Neville Wilson, who recounted some of the highlights of his rewarding career with the Flying Doctors. Neville was recognised for his 15 years of service at the event.

"CQUniversity is pleased to be able to support such a valuable service that ensures that our community has access to healthcare no matter how remote they are," said Tamsen Clifford-Banks.
