Food can affect health and behaviour

Do you know what's in your food and how it can affect your health and behaviour?

CQUniversity's food researcher Dr Karena Burke will give a FREE, informal presentation at the Criterion Hotel in Rockhampton next Thursday (August 26) from 6pm to 7pm...

PhotoID:9402, Dr Karena Burke believes food can be the root of a number of health compaints.
Dr Karena Burke believes food can be the root of a number of health compaints.
Dr Burke said there is a growing body of worldwide research that suggests what we eat can have a significant impact on our day-to-day health and well-being.

"From attention, focus and behaviour in children, to migraines, eczema and long-term chronic disease in adulthood, food has been linked to a huge range of medical conditions, sparking concern in Australia and overseas."

During the presentation, Dr Burke will discuss some of the research that points to the role of food in health and behaviour issues, as well as data from three Australian studies which examine the factors that influence what we buy. (One of these was undertaken in Rockhampton and surrounding areas).

She will also talk about the prevalence of individuals suffering from food sensitivities, including those caused by artificial additives, and will particularly focus on the effects on behaviour in children and adults.

Dr Burke encourages anyone wanting to discuss their personal experiences with food sensitivities to attend the presentation.

To RSVP for the presentation contact Jim Douglas on 4930 9371 or via j.douglas@cqu.edu.au by Monday, August 23.

This presentation is part of CQUniversity's Institute for Health and Social Science Research (IHSSR) Research Unplugged series.
