Student team creates website for Old Government House in NSW

A team of students who undertook CQU's Collaborative Multimedia Project course have recently completed a new web site for Old Government House, NSW.

The 'Trust Us' team comprised 5 students, all studying by flex mode from various parts of Queensland: Amy Barrie (Cranbrook), Stacey Critchell (Carrara), Cassandra Kowaltzke (Brisbane), Daniel Porter (Yeppoon) and Judith Woodhouse (Rothwell).

The team designed and built the web site http://www.oldgovernmenthouse.com.au/ by customising a content management system.

This means that National Trust staff with little or no web-building experience can maintain and update content from now on without deferring to web experts.

The team received accolades from client Richard Wesley, Director of Museums and Properties for the National Trust of Australia (NSW), who says the result is very sophisticated.

Mr Wesley is also very impressed with the work of another team of flex students from the course who built the website for The Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum http://www.normanlindsay.com.au/ in 2006.

A year down the track, he says it is clear that the Online Shop component of the website has significantly driven sales of the The Norman Lindsay Gallery & Museum shop.

Course coordinator Dr Ashley Holmes said the Collaborative Multimedia Project was the capstone course of the Bachelor of Digital Innovation.

"This year's students are the first to take on the new 2-term version of the course.

"Real clients are sourced for the teams and students get professional experience in a collaborative environment. Flex students in particular tend to excel in overcoming the communication challenges posed by geographical distance."
