Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Beauty of a role for performing arts graduate 

CQUniversity Bachelor of Performing Arts graduate Andrea Shine is looking forward to her latest role in the South Africa cast for the Disney musical Beauty and the Beast.

She will be in the ensemble but is also the understudy for the lead role of Belle.

Andrea, who studied in Rockhampton, has most recently appeared among the featured vocalists in South Africa's lavish OperaMania production.

She said OperaMania was "a phenomenal show to be a part of".

"The scale of the production was huge and the material was wonderful and fresh," she said.

South Africa's Beauty and the Beast production will be performed at the Monte Casino Teatro.

"We open at the end of September and run until the end of April next year including a run in Cape Town at the Artscape Opera house," Andrea said.

"The show is being produced by Pieter Torien and Hazel Feldman in association with the Disney team. Pieter Torien is the same man who produced The Lion King in South Africa and has produced many other productions in collaboration with Cameron Macintosh.

Andrea will commence 6 weeks of rehearsals in August, leading up the the opening.
