Anetta 'steps' from personal trainer to community campaigner

New 10 000 Steps Project Officer (Implementation Manager) Anetta Hinchliffe spent 12 months working as a personal trainer before joining the community-based program.

She has taken over the role from Glenn Austin, who is now working for Queensland Health in the position of Senior Health Promotion Officer Physical Activity.

PhotoID:1396 Ms Hinchliffe aims to ensure that Mr Austin continues to have ready access to 10 000 Steps resources as he takes the healthy living message into schools throughout southern and central Queensland.

Schools are a logical focus. Recent publications by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) say that more than one in four young people (about 27%) between the ages of 12-24 years are overweight or obese.

Ms Hinchliffe, a CQU human movements science graduate, is upgrading the 10 000 Steps website resources so communities, groups and individuals throughout Queensland can springboard from the program that has been piloted in Rockhampton.

10 000 Steps is a CQU Rockhampton based project funded by Queensland Health which has achieved national recognition in recent years by successfully encouraging people to walk at least 10 000 Steps each day.

Details are available via www.10000steps.org.au Ms Hinchliffe can be contacted via 07 4923 2171 or on a.hinchliffe@cqu.edu.au .
