Biostatistician to raise Institute profile

With the take-up of new health-related undergraduate programs this year - and with more to follow - there is sure to be growth in research in this diverse field.

CQUniversity's Institute for Health and Social Science Research (IHSSR) is ensuring it will be well equipped to further its health-related research with the recent appointment of Research Fellow (Biostatistics), Dr Jahar Choudhury.

"Typically, biostatisticians apply their knowledge of research design and statistics to important questions of public health," said Dr Matthew Rockloff, Deputy Director of the IHSSR, who sees great potential in Jahar's appointment.

"Dr Choudhury will help the Institute utilise cutting-edge research designs and analysis techniques in support of a wide range of research programs promoting healthy, safe and viable communities," Dr Rockloff said.

"In particular, the Institute and University will benefit from Dr Choudhury's deep knowledge and research contributions on longitudinal designs and related statistical techniques."

Dr Choudhury has a Master's degree and PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Western Australia (UWA).  He has more than 15 years experience in Biostatistical research and consultancy in the multidisciplinary fields of economics, epidemiology, psychology, public health and social sciences research and worked with other investigators at Monash University, Queensland University of Technology and UWA.

With his family, Dr Choudhury moved to Rockhampton from Western Australia, commencing work at the Institute on January 17 this year.  When Jahar isn't working he likes to read political news, watch cricket, go fishing, listen to music and try to keep up with his wife and two sons.

Jahar is located in Building 18 on Rockhampton campus and can be contacted on 4930 6976 or at j.choudhury@cqu.edu.au.
