New Emerald Campus 'vote of confidence in community'

CQU's new Emerald Campus location is a vote of confidence in the local community, according to Federal Member for Maranoa Hon Bruce Scott.

Mr Scott made this comment while officially opening the new campus, which is now co-located with the Emerald Agricultural College on the Capricorn Highway (having moved last year from its shared location with the Central Highlands College of TAFE).

They now have access to extensive grounds, two classrooms, a lecture hall, an education building and a general administration building (the latter two which have been renovated).

University students can also arrange to stay at one of the residential dorms within the grounds, which holds up to 25 students.

CQU Emerald coordinator Pat Moran said the new facility was expected to improve access to students from remote areas.

"They can come now to Emerald and do their business or their education degree here and live on campus," Ms Moran said.

The official opening coincided with CQU’s Orientation Week for new and continuing students.

Guests were entertained by the Marist College jazz band and enjoyed a barbecue meal after the official program.
