Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Six senior appointments at CQUniversity 

CQUniversity has in recent weeks announced 6 new senior appointments to lead developments in research and teaching.

Associate Professor Lorna Moxham has gained the position of Dean, Research and Research Training. A/Prof Moxham is currently one of the University's senior academics in Nursing. She will be dividing her time between the Dean position and her duties in supervision, research and as chair of the Human Research Ethics Committee.

Associate Professor Bobby Harreveld, who has a signficant research track record in education initiatives and reforms, has gained the position as Director of the University's new research centre: the Learning and Teaching Research Centre. This Centre complements activities in the International Education Research Centre lead by Professor Paul Rodan.

Dr Anna Thomas has been appointed as Director of the Institute for Resource Industries and Professor John Rolfe has the role of Deputy Director.

Dr Thomas currently holds the position as General Manager for Rail Innovation Australia Pty Ltd, the IP commercialisation spin-off company established in 2007 following completion of the first Rail CRC. She brings to this position significant experience in managing complex industry-university collaborative research partnerships through 6 years as Business Manager and Developer for the Rail CRC and the last 2 years as General Manager of RIA.

Dr Thomas will be supported in this role by Professor John Rolfe who has been undertaking the duties of Director during the last year. Professor Rolfe currently also holds the position of Director of the Centre for Environmental Management and is CQUniversity's Professor in Regional Development Economics. Professor Rolfe is one of the University's leading academic researchers, focusing particularly on questions that investigate the economic impacts associated with a wide range of environmental and resource issues.

Earlier in June, CQUniversity announced that new Division of Library and Academic Learning Services, under the direction of Graham Black, will enhance the ‘student experience' by increasing its ability to provide a consistent level of service across our campuses and locations and by Distance Education.

During May, the University appointed Professor Gabriel Donleavy to the position of Dean, Academic and Quality. Prof Donleavy is currently Professor of Accounting and Head of School of Commerce and Marketing. He will be dividing his time between duties in the Faculty and the Dean position. Prof Donleavy has degrees from Cambridge University, University of Glasgow and University of London. He has a distinguished academic career, having held academic appointments in the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Australia.
