Quiz Masters

The team from North Rockhampton State High School won the CQU Rockhampton Schools Science Quiz on Wednesday (21 August), demonstrating the breadth of science knowledge among 10th, 11th and 12th graders in the Rockhampton community.

PhotoID:250 Part of the CQU celebration of National Science Week and hosted by our own Dr. C.J. Parmenter (A/Professor in Biology), North Rocky High was among eight local high schools competing in the challenge (pictured).

Members on each team collaborated to answer questions on chemistry, biology, astronomy and more. For instance, do you know why Mercury and Venus have about the same temperature? Or can you represent a description of a chemical reaction in a balanced chemical equation? How much do you know about sea creatures and mermaid myths? “It made Quiz Masters seem dull,” said Dr Parmenter, after the three-hour competition.

PhotoID:251 Dr. David Druskovich (Chemical and Biomedical Sciences) made a presentation to the winning North Rockhampton State High School team: Theo Farrow, Gr. 12 and Team Captain; Ranishka Hewavisenthi, Gr. 11; and Navid Wasimi, Gr. 10.
