Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Gladstone Regional Council awards engineering scholarships 

Deanna Robbie and Brodie Reck have been announced the winners of the 2009 Gladstone Regional Council Scholarships.

These scholarships provide the winners with a $16,000 payment per year towards tuition and educational expenses for the remaining 3 years of their program.

In addition, they also receive paid annual work placements and a laptop computer while in receipt of the scholarship.

Deanna is thankful for the on-the-job experience she will gain.

"Being a recipient of the Gladstone Regional Council Scholarship means that I will gain on the job experience in the industry which I am interested in, whilst I am studying," Deanna said.

"The scholarship will also be a great financial help to me as I will be able to pay the majority of my HECS debt off by the time I finish my degree."

Brodie said he hoped to make the most of the opportunity and gain a headstart in his career.

The Council provides 2 Scholarships to CQUniversity students entering their second year of study in the Bachelor of Engineering Co-op Civil Program.
