Increasing consular interest in capital city graduations

The recent CQU Sydney International Campus graduation was an example of increasing consular interest in the University's capital city ceremonies.

In its 10th anniversary year, CQU Sydney recognised its largest graduating group, with 452 students from 42 countries receiving awards.

The High Commissioner of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Lt. General M. Harun-Ar-Rashid travelled from Canberra with his family to attend the graduation. Sixty-four of the graduates were citizens of Bangladesh and the Consul General praised the contribution CQU continues to make for their community.

CQU Sydney had responses from 17 consulates and embassies and had 11 countries represented at the graduation, including Vietnam, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and China.

The embassy officials commented on the significance of the graduation being held in the Sydney Town Hall and the obvious cultural diversity represented by our graduates.

For one of the guests of the Vietnam Consul, Mr Nyugen (Senior Expert), attending the graduation had personal significance, as his son was one of the Bachelor of Information Technology graduates. CQU Sydney's student population includes many children of senior overseas officials and business leaders from all corners of the world.
