Mackay students to gather for inaugural CQUni event

Students living at CQUniversity Mackay will take part in the inaugural Student Residences Professorial Dinner tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 15.

The evening will give students of all disciplines the opportunity to take a break from their study, network with peers and staff members and enjoy a night of learning, fun and entertainment.

CQUniversity's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research) and Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Jennelle Kyd will present a professorial lecture on ‘Why my child cannot hear the dragonfly'. The lecture will discuss research into why Aboriginal children are 10 times more likely to suffer from ear infections than non-Aboriginal children.

CQUniversity's Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman will also be in attendance.

Students will attend the lecture in the Library, with dinner to follow in the Refectory. They will dress in full academic attire.

CQUniversity's Student Residential Manager Geoleen Feeney said while the Professorial Dinner happens each year in Rockhampton, this year would mark the first time for Mackay students living on campus.

Ms Feeney said it will continue to be an annual event.

"The Professorial lecture and dinner is held mid-term - an opportune time for students to take a well deserved break from their studies and catch up with their fellow residents," she said.
