Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Emerald lecturer a scholarship winner 

Emerald teacher and CQU lecturer Kathy Sheppard has been awarded a $25,000 scholarship to further study the art of learning.

Kathy Sheppard, from Emerald State High School, was among five teachers to gain a Premier's Smart State Teacher Excellence Scholarship.

The scholarships recognise teachers who demonstrate educational leadership and inspiration.

Mrs Sheppard reportedly will use part of her scholarship to complete two units of a Masters of Learning Management degree with CQU.

She also plans to visit America to attend the Learning Brain Expo in California and to visit Harvard University, where research on brain function and human learning is taking place.

Mrs Sheppard also plans to visit demonstration smart schools in Boston.
