Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQU Mackay Head of Campus Associate Professor Phillip Clift has been appointed as chair of the Mackay Whitsunday Regional Economic Development Corporation.

The MWREDC is the peak economic development organisation for the Mackay Whitsunday Region. The region encompasses the Mackay Statistical Division, which includes the eight local government areas of Belyando, Bowen, Broadsound, Mackay, Mirani, Nebo, Sarina and Whitsunday.

Meanwhile, CQU Emerald Campus coordinator Janice Moriarty has been announced as 'Outstanding Adult Learner' in conjunction with Adult Learning Week on the Central Highlands.

The criteria for the award included: a visible improvement to the nominee's own life and/or the lives of others as a result of learning experiences; maintenance of family, public, social or employment responsibilities at the same time as pursuing learning goals; and support of others engaged in adult learning.
