CQU helps host Active Kids camp

It seems to be every parent’s worst nightmare; how to keep the kids occupied in those final days before the new school year commences.

If this sounds like you, then the School of Health & Human Performance (HHP) at CQU has the answer.

The answer is Active Kids Rockhampton - a new five-day sporting and recreation camp for 10 to 12-year-old boys and girls from the Central Queensland area.

PhotoID:1774 Timed to perfection, Active Kids Rockhampton is being run from 9am-4pm daily from January 17-21 at CQU Rockhampton (the week before school recommences). According to the Bureau of Statistics, most camps are sports-based, targeting only sporty kids, and the amount of time primary-aged kids are getting involved in physical activity, either through sport or recreation, is decreasing dramatically.

Active Kids Rockhampton will expose children to a variety of sports and recreational activities, all taught by qualified sports development officers and recreational instructors in their various fields of expertise. Camp Director, Industry Liaison Officer for the School of HHP, Alex Bright says: “It is a fantastic opportunity for children to try new and different sports and recreational activities that are available in the CQ region and to get them involved in physical activity”.

“CQU students studying Human Movement Science and training to be HPE teachers have been influential in getting Active Kids off the ground as part of their Industry Practicum studies. Our students will also be involved with the coaching and supervision of the children, gaining valuable work experience within the Central Queensland community”.
