CQU’s Plant Science PhD students Sohail Qureshi and Shamsa Syeda were guest speakers at a workshop organised by the Fitzroy River and Coastal Catchments last Saturday.
The workshop held at the Kershaw Gardens in North Rockhampton was titled 'Forum in the Field, Bush Tucker' and focused on Australian native plants and their identification.
Mr Qureshi was invited to speak about the activities and research being undertaken at Plant Sciences Group at CQU and also spoke about his research project which looks at the management of the Silverleaf Whitefly without the use of hard chemicals.
Ms Syeda also spoke about her project on the 'Pollution of the Dee River'. This was followed by lots of questions and a discussion. Shamsa also mentioned that she needs volunteers for her project.
Workshop patrons also learned about valuable plants on their properties, viewed products made from native plants, participated in a garden walk and identified plants useful for food or medicine.
