Mackay's Novosel family celebrates fourth CQU graduate

Four of the five children of Bill and Pauleen Novosel have now graduated from Central Queensland University –two are graduates from the Mackay campus and two from the Rockhampton campus, having begun their initial studies in Mackay.

The fifth member of the family, Jeremy, has a successful career in the Police Service, having completed his studies through Griffith University.

Parents, Bill and Pauleen are proud of all of their children for the efforts they have made in achieving their goals, and recommend CQU as a valuable resource for gaining employment in the professions.

PhotoID:2053 The most recent graduate was Jenevieve Novosel, the only daughter in the family and the youngest member, who completed her Bachelor of Business degree in 2005 and attended the CQU Mackay ceremony at Mackay Entertainment Centre on Saturday (June 25).

Jenevieve\'s graduation ceremony was on the same day as her brother Jason’s wedding, so it is indeed a memorable finale to the graduates’ story.

Jenevieve worked for the Mackay Daily Mercury while studying for her degree. During her experience with the newspaper company, she was awarded APN’s Best Classifieds Lineage Advertisement for April, 2004 and APN’s Best Classifieds Display Advertisement for November, 2004. Her lineage advertisement was later selected as APN’s Best Lineage Advertisement for the Year.

Jenevieve travelled overseas, while her parents were teaching in London in 2003. Having majored in Management, Jenevieve is now working in Brisbane as Office Coordinator for Skillgate Learning Centres. Jenevieve’s sporting interest is basketball.

Jason Novosel, the eldest son, studied a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a double major in Psychology and a major in Sociology. He was offered a place in the Honours Course for Psychology, but chose to complete a Graduate Diploma of Teaching. He graduated in 1997, gaining the highest Grade Point Average for his Teaching degree. He was awarded Half Blues honours for the sport of Volleyball during his CQU years and was a Queensland Merit Team representative in the sport. He is currently the Year 12 Coordinator at Holy Spirit College, Mackay, where he teaches Legal Studies as his major area. Jason completed his Masters of Education in 2004.

Jarrod Novosel, the third son, has had an illustrious career in both his studies and his sport. He represented Australia in Volleyball and Beach Volleyball for many years, studying for his Bachelor of Engineering Co-op while travelling overseas to compete in volleyball tournaments. He graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1999, achieving First Class Honours, and having featured for several years on the Dean’s List of Honour for outstanding academic achievements. Among many other awards gained during his university studies was the SRIA Award for excellence in the structural engineering course.

Jarrod was presented with Half Blues and Full Blues honours for his sport while at CQU, and was CQU Sportsperson of the Year in 1996. He represented Australia playing Beach Volleyball, in the Goodwill Games in 2001. In the same year, he travelled successfully on the Beach Volleyball World Tour.

Having injured his shoulder in 2002, Jarrod has suspended his international competition. He has worked for Connell Wagner as a structural engineer in Gladstone, Mackay, Townsville, and in Brisbane, where he is now a senior structural engineer with the firm, after returning from 12 months engineering work in London, during 2004.

Jamien Novosel, the youngest son, studied his Bachelor of Teaching degree at the Mackay campus, graduating in 2000. In keeping with the strong family emphasis on sport, he majored in Health and Physical Education. He began teaching in Gladstone at Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School and is now enjoying his career as a teacher in the Middle School at Whitsunday Anglican School, Mackay. He will be travelling to North Dakota with students from the Middle School in September and will be promoting sport in education at a similar school in Minot, USA. Jamien also was a Junior Australian Merit Team representative in Beach Volleyball during 2001. For details contact Bill Novosel via:billeen@hotmail.com .
