Investing in a Morrow for tomorrow

Engineering Lecturer Ken Smith presents Lisa Morrow with her scholarship from Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and HealthThis year is the Year of Women in Engineering (as nominated by Engineers Australia) and CQU Gladstone student Lisa Morrow is happy to be part of an increasing number of women becoming engineering professionals.
Lisa only turned 17 in May this year, so she was a year and a half younger than most of her new peers at CQU Gladstone when she commenced her studies in February.
However, Lisa is not concerned about being a young female in a traditionally male-dominated arena.
"Maybe guys don't think women can do the same thing they do but I am going to prove them wrong," Ms Morrow said.
Lisa's aim of a career in engineering received a boost recently when she was awarded a scholarship by the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health.
The $1000 scholarship is one of 6 given to Year 12 students who elected to study engineering at Central Queensland University.
The scholarship is given on academic merit and a commitment to a career in engineering, something that Lisa has always been interested in.
"I have always lived in mining towns and had an interest in the mining and engineering field," said Ms Morrow.
Lisa has decided on mechanical engineering as her specialised area and hopes it will allow her to travel.
