Essay prize for Bundaberg nursing student

A Bundaberg nursing student has won second prize in the 2005 Queensland Cancer Fund Alf Kretschmar Awards.

Stephen Pitt has won the prize with his written contribution on the topic 'Doug'. Stephen’s experience in caring for Doug was the basis for the essay, and he described how his experience caring for Doug confirmed his decision to become a nurse.

PhotoID:2371 The Alf Kretschmar Awards are an annual essay competition run by the Queensland Cancer Fund and are open to enrolled nurses, student nurses and assistants-in-nursing.

The awards honour the memory of the Queensland Cancer Fund’s first Field Officer, Alf Kretschmar, who reached Queenslanders in cities and remote outback towns with his anti-cancer education campaigns for 12 years.

The second prize is $500 to be awarded at the 28th Annual Oncology Nurses Group Conference on October 7 at the Cairns International Hotel.
