Rocky Campus original honoured in Melbourne

Des Pearson, the longest-serving of Australia's current Auditor-Generals, accepted the degree of Honorary Doctor of Business in Melbourne this week.
Mr Pearson is the Auditor-General of Victoria and previously served as Western Australia's Auditor-General. He accepted his award during CQUniversity Australia's graduation ceremony at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Mr Pearson is an Alumnus of the University and was in the first graduating cohort from Rockhampton Campus in 1970.
Born in Barcaldine, and growing up in Rockhampton and Mackay, the proud Central Queenslander has maintained an active interest in the University, and was particularly instrumental in the organisation of CQUniversity's 40th anniversary reunion.
"My career is an example of the benefits of a regional university. But for the availability of CQUniversity I would not have had the wonderful opportunities and would not have ended up where I am today," Mr Pearson said.
"I'm ecstatic about the award, which follows my Alumnus of the Year award from 1996. It's humbling and gives me a great sense of fulfillment."
During the three decades Mr Pearson has served the Australian community as an Auditor-General (since 1991), he has instigated tremendous changes relating to improving the accountability, transparency and performance of the public sector and the Office of the Auditor-General itself.
