Dickson thanked for charity run role

CQU’s Dr Geoff Dickson leadership in developing a Lest We Forget Run event for Rockhampton has earned him a Sport Achievement Award signed by Prime Minister John Howard.

PhotoID:808 Dr Dickson incorporated the event’s coordination into projects for his sport planning and development class, and hopes it will become a staple for human movements students.

The Lest We Forget Run was held simultaneously throughout Australia on April 27, with all 5000 participants observing a one-minute silence before commencement of the race. Around 80 took part in Rockhampton.

From every corner of Australia and internationally, in over 60 locations as far reaching as Defence forces in the Persian Gulf and Bougainville, Australians ran, jogged or walked in the name of remembrance and charity, over an 8km course - the same distance the ANZACs were required to capture when landing at Gallipoli.

PhotoID:809Participants set off simultaneously as the start was broadcast live nationally, on ABC radio's Australia All Over program, hosted by Ian "Macca" McNamara.

All net profit will be used for welfare related activities and charities nominated by the RSL.
