Engineering wins ARC Linkage grant

A team from CQU's James Goldston Faculty of Engineering & Physical Systems has won an ARC Linkage grant.
Dr Nasser Hossein Zadeh, Associate Professor Peter Wolfs, Dr Steven Senini, and Dr Dawit Seyoum have been awarded $96,592 in the latest round of grants to be released through the ARC’s Linkage Projects Scheme.
Their industry partner is Ergon Energy.
The team’s project is titled “Capacity Enhancement, Energy-Loss Reduction and Voltage Control for Remote Three-Phase Distribution Feeders Supplying Electrical Power to Single-Wire Earth-Return (SWER) Systems”.
There has been a steady growth in demand of electrical energy in rural areas in the past two decades.
This demand is supplied by an infrastructure of long feeders and their associated SWER systems, with high transmission losses and supply quality problems.
It is essential to enhance the capacity and reduce the energy losses of these feeders.
The project will result in improved quality and more reliable power supply for large rural areas of Australia.
It is expected that significant greenhouse savings will result from energy loss reduction, contributing to environmental sustainability.
The Funding will be used to provide two new Masters by Research scholarships.
