Students invited to join newly-minted mentors

CQUniversity's First Year Experience Team is currently recruiting a fresh batch of student mentors to help new students settle into their academic learning journey in 2013.

Student mentors help out during Orientation Week and stay in touch with their 'mentees' for the duration of the academic year, sending friendly reminders and tips through the terms.

Mentors often share experiences and answer questions that only a more experienced student can.

All mentors are trained via a self-paced on-line course that helps develop appropriate communication and leadership skills.

Mentors can benefit by gaining a special shirt, a 10% textbooks discount and an invitation to a presentation dinner, as well as professional training and development opportunities and recognition from staff and fellow students.

Meantime, the 2012 Student Mentors of the Year cash prize winners have been announced as: Sharleen Keleher (Bundaberg); Damien Henson (Gladstone); Phoebe Vannoort (Mackay); Bec Stacey (Noosa); Jamilla Johnson (Rockhampton) and Kelly Voyka (Distance Education).
