Embattled Japanese reach out to help Rockhampton
Published on 14 July, 2011
Japanese people would be forgiven for focusing inward following a string of disasters in March, but staff and students from Komatsu College University recently donated yen equivalent to $300, collected for the Red Cross Rockhampton Flood Appeal.
The President of the Komatsu College University - a long-standing partner of CQUniversity - made contact earlier in the year to notify us of this very kind donation. CQUniversity lecturer Takahiro Yokoyama visited Japan recently and accepted the donation on behalf of CQUniversity.
It is the express wish of Professor Katsuhiko Kano, President of Komatsu College University, that the funds are directed to benefit the people of Rockhampton who were affected by the 2011 floods.
Takahiro completed the circle this week by handing over a cheque to Australian Red Cross Regional Manager Jennifer Smith.
