Visiting pianist aims to remove barriers

Visiting international pianist Ali Wood aims to remove barriers with her audience through lighting, staging, conversation and choice of music.

Ali Wood is performing with the Rockhampton Concert Orchestra at Rockhampton’s Pilbeam Theatre from 8pm on Saturday, April 13. Bookings via 4927 4111.

PhotoID:61 The ‘All Famous Stuff’ event includes the famous piano concerts of Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Mozart’s Eliva Madigan and Gerswhin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Guest vocalist Dimitri Kopanakis from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music will also perform.

Ali Wood is a 21 year old musical prodigy who has broken the barriers of traditional piano concert recitals. Every one of her performances present the most well-known and well-loved of all piano music, adding special lighting and staging effects, costume and conversation to enhance the mood of the concert.....a spectacular extravaganza......one of the most exciting musical events you will ever experience.

Not only is she a sensation to listen to, her presence on stage captivates an audience's full attention. Barely five feet tall with long blond hair, she plays the piano as if her life depends on it, displaying powerful energy and timeless passion not usually seen in a performer so young. Critically acclaimed as "a giant among giants".

Conversation is an important part of all Miss Wood's performances. She takes pride in telling her audiences interesting anecdotes about the music she performs, as well as throwing in a few of her "funniest moments" of her travels around the world as a concert pianist. A revolutionary approach to classical music......this is a "show" not just a classical concert.
