Campus renewal plans win industry approval

CQUniversity's campus renewal plans for Rockhampton, Mackay and Bundaberg have won industry acclaim as examples of 'regional planning achievement'...

The Division of Facilities Management and our planning associates - TRACT Consultants and Ted Hochschwender  - this month gained a Certificate of Merit from the Planning Institute of Australia Queensland Division.

The PIA cites that the renewal plans aim to integrate the campuses into their local communities through physical links and co-location of facilities.

The campus renewal plans are long-term blueprints for development of the University campuses and are designed so that each environment will have an identifiable ‘CQUniversity' character, no matter which campus is visited in regional Queensland.

Key features of each plan are a formal ‘campus heart' with a strong pedestrian ‘spine' and ring roads for traffic flow. Provision is made for future building footprints, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability and community space.

"The plans show the way in which higher education can play a formative role in shaping the economic bases of future regional prosperity," the PIA states.
