Five talented Central Queensland University Bachelor of Performing Arts students will compete in a national choreographic competition next month.
The budding choreographers – second year dance students Dayna Fox, Julia Thornton, Joanna Warren and first year dance students Adam Sleeman and Arlene Gordon – will compete in the 2005 Australian Choreographic Competition in Geelong in July.
The competition will be part of the Splash! Dance Festival at the Geelong Performing Arts Complex.
The students will compete against choreographers from all over Australia in the non-professional category which is open to all senior students and non-professional choreographers.
CQU Dance Lecturer Dr Emma Killion said the students will perform their choreographed piece before an audience of industry professionals and the wider dance community.
“The students had to address specific choreographic criteria on application to this competition. This was developed through their coursework within the Dance Performance II course offered through the Bachelor of Performing Arts,” explained Dr Killion.
“The students will be exposed to a wide range of performance and dance styles while in attendance at the festival.”.
