Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Nancarrow appointed to Ministerial Advisory Council 

Heather Nancarrow, Director of The Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research based at CQU Mackay has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Domestic and Family Violence to represent the Central Queensland region.

PhotoID:2462 Ms Nancarrow is one of 14 Queenslanders who have been appointed by the Minister for Communities, Disability Services and Seniors Warren Pitt.

The Ministerial Advisory Council on Domestic and Family Violence will provide advice to Mr Pitt and the Queensland Government to help develop policies, programs and services that reduce domestic and family violence.

The Council will focus on the key issues of perpetrator programs, domestic and family violence legislation, Indigenous family violence and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

Ms Nancarrow said she will be conducting consultations with people in the Central Queensland region to enable them to help shape policies at a local, regional and state level.
