Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

AUQA audit panel and schedule outlined 

The Australian Universities Quality Agency has notified CQU of the panel who will audit operations later this year.

The panel membership is as follows: Prof Jan Thomas, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Murdoch University - Panel Chairperson; Prof Muhammad Kamil Tadjudin, Professor of Biology, School of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Jakarta; Mr Graeme Dennehy, Executive Director (Business and Administration), University of New England; Ms Felicity McGregor, University Librarian, University of Wollongong; and Mr Martin Carroll, Audit Director, AUQA.

The schedule for the CQU audit is yet to be confirmed, but has been proposed as: Monday 18 July: Portfolio Received Thursday 11 August: Portfolio Meeting; Whole Panel to meet at AUQA -- does not involve CQU.

Tuesday 06 September: Preparatory Visit; Panel Chair and Audit Director to visit Rockhampton Campus.

Two weeks commencing 19 September: International Audit Visit; This is just a block time booking at this stage. It has not been determined how many days will be required or which locations will be visited for this aspect of the audit.

Tuesday – Friday 18-21 October; Onshore Audit Visit; Interviews from Tuesday to Thursday inclusive. Friday is for Panel deliberations and would conclude with a feedback session to the Vice-Chancellor.

Once the panel has read and discussed the Performance Portfolio and conducted the preparatory visit, they will notify CQU of the required interviewees. In most instances the panel will specify individuals or specific office-holders in the audit visit program. Other composite groups may also be interviewed, or locations visited, possibly including an informal ‘walkabout’.

In order to ensure the best possible preparations for the AUQA audit, a series of information sessions and facilitated meetings will be conducted. Staff and students who will be interviewed will be expected to attend, however anyone who interested will be welcome.
