Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Off-campus students encouraged to attend free learning skills workshops 

CQU's off-campus students are encouraged to attend free learning skills development workshops, scheduled for next weekend in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville.

The venue for the Brisbane workshops is CQU's Brisbane International Campus, 108 Margaret Street (in the city). Students have a choice of sessions - Saturday April 28, 1-5pm, or Sunday April 29, 11-3pm. Presenters will be Julie Willans from the Communications Learning Centre, and Michele Palu from Student Services.

The Cairns workshop will be held at the Tropical North Queensland TAFE, Eureka Street on Saturday April 28, 9am-1pm.

In Townsville, the workshop will be held at the LNQ Centre in the TADEC Building at 29 Ingham Road on Sunday April 29, 9am-1pm.

The North Queensland workshops will be presented by Lyn Forbes-Smith from the Communications Learning Centre and Olive Mallory from Student Services.

The workshops will cover academic writing, including tackling the assignment, analysing the assessment tasks, structuring an essay, writing skills, learning from assessment, referencing and plagiarism. The sessions will also cover study skills, exam preparation, stress management and skills to help motivation, persistence and resilience.
