Full results for Chancellor's Cup

Over the weekend of August 6-8, staff and students of CQUniversity gathered in Melbourne for the third annual Chancellor's Cup sports tournament.

Extending from the previous success of what has traditionally been a cricket tournament, this year offered participants the opportunity to be selected for and compete in two additional sports, table tennis and soccer.

The event was successful in engaging a broader range of students, both male and female, from a diverse number of countries and backgrounds.

As no trip to Melbourne is complete without a visit to the ‘hallowed ground' for a little AFL, staff and students began the weekend with a walk to the MCG to brave the cold and watch a night game between old rivals Essendon and Carlton. This experience was made possible as part of the GLoBALL program established by Essendon Football Club, the AFL and Cricket Victoria. For many students this was their first time seeing an AFL match and those who participated enjoyed the atmosphere and excitement of the game.

With team spirit palpable, students congregated at the Action Indoor Sports centre in Maribyrnong ready for a day of competition and fun. Over two days, teams played over multiple courts demonstrating speed and athleticism and battling for campus pride.

Sunday afternoon's final rounds saw Rockhampton take out the soccer trophy. Gold Coast and Sydney drew in table tennis, with Sydney A taking the gold medal and dual victors Gold Coast also winning the trophy for cricket. Ashish Shah from Gold Coast won the coveted Martand Joshi award for 'man of the match'.

As such the overall Chancellors Cup winner for 2010 was the Gold Coast.

With many students taking the opportunity to make new friends across campuses, the spirit of community and friendship was clearly evident and it is hoped that this tournament will continue to provide such opportunities in future. Congratulations go to all students who participated in the weekend.
