Students passed and presented for Futures

Students completing their course on e-Learning Futures have been presented with awards in conjunction with a residential school at CQU Rockhampton.

e-Learning Futures is a core course within the Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching (GDLT) that focuses on futures, problem solving and the use of e-learning technologies, both to provide student learning opportunities and to integrate the technology into the student outputs.

This course, like the others in the GDLT program, uses online technology to support the students' learning as well as residential schools at the beginning of each term.

The GDLT is a postgraduate, pre-service teacher program that provides a pathway for professionals to be eligible for Queensland Teacher's registration after one year of intensive study and professional attachment.

Course Coordinator and Lecturer Scot Aldred said the program has a Futures focus that provides students with the ability to look into the future, problem-solve and provide contemporary learning opportunities for their students using 21st century skills.

The award finalists were judged on:

  1. The levels of support and collegiality they provide for their student peers
  2. The quality of each assignment produced, and
  3. A special award for the technical support offered to peers throughout the course.

"One of the characteristics that distinguishes this course from others in the program (and Faculty) is the level of student interaction," Mr Aldred said.

In just 9 weeks there were a total of 42,224 interactions on the course discussion forums with 2565 of those resulting in postings. With just 80 students enrolled in the course there is an average of 527 interactions and 32 postings per student.
