Hessen-Queensland Program offers student exchange opportunities

CQU students are encouraged to consider applying for exchange to one of 12 higher education institutions in Hessen, a state in the heart of Germany and Europe.

The Hessen Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts is offering 10 scholarships for tuition for Queensland students in order to support an exchange to Hessen.

PhotoID:2012 Under the Hessen-Queensland Program, Queensland students have the chance to study in Hessen for one or two semesters.

They can gain experience studying and living in Germany and have the chance to give their studies a European dimension.

Hessen has five universities, two art academies and five universities of applied sciences - all participating in the program.

An increasing number of universities offer courses taught in English.

Most courses are classified by ECTS points (European Credit Transfer System). The CQU International Office at Rockhampton (via Lavenia James) can advise on credits available during the exchange.

German multimedia student Lisa Hansen successfuly competed for a place in the Hessen-Queensland International Exchange Program and chose CQU's multimedia subjects to ensure direct credits for her home degree.

Lisa was one of the first 10 students that came to Australia on this program. She is studying Media Production in Germany, which is an English program.

Lisa said she applied to come to Australia seeking a cultural contrast.

"It's just about the opposite side of the world," she said.

PhotoID:2013 Ms Hansen has found the laid-back Rockhampton lifestyle a lot different to the relative bustle of her home city of Darmstadt (near Frankfurt) where she attends the University of Applied Science Darmstadt.

Ms Hansen is keen on a career in the organisational and production aspects of movies and videos.

She will spend one term at CQU Rockhampton before returning to complete her degree in Germany.

CQU students interested in taking up this opportunity can contact Lavenia James at CQU International Office via l.james@cqu.edu.au .
